What is the Worship Service like?

Our auditorium is air-conditioned, fully wheelchair accessible. Hearing assistive devices are available from the ushers, who also hand out the bulletins.  Song books and Bibles are handy in the pews. Our services start at 10:30 a.m. (10:00 during July & August). Ushers will typically let you find your own, preferred seating, or, if you prefer, offer their assistance in finding a place. Should you arrive late, the ushers will try to seat you at an appropriate moment.

The congregation cuts across all age, and socio-economic groups. The atmosphere, dress, and conduct of the services is relaxed and friendly. All participation, singing, standing or whatever, is entirely voluntary and varies widely. No one is ever put on the spot!

The praise team, a small group of singers and instrumentalists on the platform, lead in contemporary choruses and traditional hymns and songs, a blend, chosen to suit the particular theme of the day. An offering is received by passing a plate through the pews. Visitors may simply let the plate pass by.

Children, ages 3 - 6 are given opportunity, part way through the service, to leave the adult service and enjoy a special time by themselves.

Chorus texts are displayed on an overhead screen. Hymns can be seen on the ‘overhead’ as well, or sung from regular song books.

The service runs about an hour and a quarter, with approximately half an hour devoted to a sermon.

Whether this is your first Sunday attending services, or you have made Elgin your church home for many years, church is a family affair! New attendees or senior members - we are all the same before our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!
